Plenty of people with dementia live at home, with a husband or wife, a son or a daughter doing the caring. The days at the kitchen table get long for both of them. A day somewhere with company, a proper lunch and something to do changes the week.
That is what the home is open for. They come for the day and go home for the evening, and the person caring for them gets a day of their own.
Morning to teatime, in company.
A day here follows the shape of the house as it runs every day: the same kitchen, the same cinema room, the same carers.
- Morning — arrive, a coffee, the paper, and a face they saw last time.
- Lunch — from the same kitchen as everyone else, at the same table.
- Afternoon — the film, the garden, the salon, a song in the lounge. Whatever they enjoy at home, with company.
- Home for the evening — whoever collects them hears how the day went, and the night is spent in their own bed.
